LOGICAL FALLACIES 10/13

It is common for logical fallacies to occur in every-day life, seeing as individuals tend to believe they are correct no matter what, relying on themselves over actual logic and reasoning. It is also likely for this to be evident in a television show due to the fact that false logic leaves room for humor. The hit series "The Office" is full of logical fallacies throughout, being filled with ridiculous characters making the show as hilarious as it is known to be. The prime example of a logical fallacy in this show is the manager of the Scranton branch himself, Michael Scott. Considering that Michael is in a position of power, one would think his reasoning would be backed up by appropriate logic, but actually it is quite the opposite. Michael, being a childish adult, is obsessed with "That's what she said" jokes, and uses them frequently throughout the office towards employees. Said employees bring up this issue to the company's morale worker, Toby, whom Michael hates due to the fact that Toby is always raining on his parade and ruining the fun Michael expects to occur in the workplace. Specifically, one day Toby brings up these complaints to Michael, basically asking him to lay back on the inappropriate jokes. Michael, clearly becoming upset, turns the situation around by making even more "that's what she said" jokes right to Toby's face and proceeding to make fun of him, referencing his divorce. Here, Michael uses non-sequitur, which is demonstrated through Michael's conclusion that the fact that Toby is divorced means he has no sense of humor and that is why he is not a fan of Michael's immature jokes. Clearly these things do not add up and mean that Toby has no sense of humor, it is not logical and makes no sense, except to Michael it does. This is a clear example of a logical fallacy, even though hundreds more can be found in this humorous, seemingly illogical series.
