When given the opportunity to follow famous individuals on our twitter account for this course, I immediately jumped at the chance. When considering who to follow, I wanted to choose people that are relevant to our society today, making their twitter account interesting and continually updated and interactive. I also wanted to follow people with comedic personalities that would make my timeline more interesting. The ten internet personalities I chose to follow Ellen Degeneres, Justin Bieber, Barack Obama, Jimmy Fallon, Oprah Winfrey, Donald Trump, Miley Cyrus, Rihanna, Kim Kardashian West, and Chrissy Teigen, all people that are in the spotlight today and have up to date twitter accounts. For starters, Ellen's brand is using her comedic abilities for not only comic relief, but to help others through advertisements and actual charity. Her tweets consist of random jokes, shoutouts to other celebrities, and advertisements to promote brands she supports, proving to be hilarious, honest, and authentic through her interactions with other celebrities and highlights from her show. Ellen uses pathos by using comedy to connect with others and establishes credibility through her television show which documents her humor and charitable acts, using ethos. Justin Bieber's brand is using his talents to help others and spread awareness, with many of his recent tweets discussing his new music, to help others, and how to combine the two. He uses pathos to connect on an emotional level with followers through musical lyrics and tweets requesting prayers for those in need, proving to be authentic. Barack Obama's brand is communicating info to the public, enlightening them on what's going on in politics and how he is influencing them, which is documented in his tweets through pictures with other politicians and citizens, as well as communicating to followers how he is helping to make a difference in the world, proving to be authentic. Through pictures and political involvement, Obama establishes credibility, or ethos. Jimmy Fallon's brand is self promotion through comedy, which he displays in his tweets that recap his nightly shows and interactions with other celebrities on twitter. Fallon uses pathos through his comedic personality which is written all over his internet profile. Oprah's brand is simple in the sense that she expresses what's on her mind and promotes shows on her network, not really being as interactive as the others. She does this by tweeting her thoughts on a show or advertising the premiere of shows on the Oprah Winfrey Network, establishing credibility through her thoughts which conveys what her own network might consist of. Donald Trump's brand is advertising what's going on in the world and aiming for humor, but not always achieving it. This is displayed through frequent tweets and interactions on twitter, also incorporating ethos by stating current event and pathos by trying to come across as very driven for America and it's people through his language and common phrase of "God Bless America", although, it is often questioned whether or not he is being authentic. Miley Cyrus' brand is being true to oneself and expresses this through her fashion and music. On twitter, she is found to do so by always speaking her mind and commenting on what she says during tv show appearances, displaying authenticity and using pathos to connect with followers that have the same unique, equality-driven values as her. Rihanna's brand is similar in the sense that it is being comfortable in one's own skin and advertising that to the world. She does so through promoting her music which conveys these ideas, her make-up and fashion line which correspond as well, and speaking her mind on current issues. In this, Rihanna establishes credibility and authenticity through her successful career and pathos through what she stands for. Kim Kardashian Wests' brand is very self-involved and beauty focused, seeing as majority of her tweets are either to promote her show, app, or make-up line, or to simply comment on gossip circulating around about her. Through this, she is able to use pathos to connect with fans through funny instances promoted for her show or by followers with the same interests connecting with her personality put on display, causing some to wonder if she is being her true self or not. Finally, Chrissy Teigen's brand is similar to others seeing as it is about being comfortable with one's self and not being afraid to express that, especially through humor. Chrissy seems to be very authentic through her candid posts and openness with speaking her mind, especially on political matters, not afraid of retaliation. Chrissy establishes pathos through using comedy and silly photos to connect with fans, bringing her a following. One thing all these individuals have in common is that they constantly promote their brands and can establish credibility through their fame and success. Other common factors found in their tweets are humor, politics, and religion, allowing for them to connect to fans as well.
